Turns out Lisbon isn’t the only place with wrong turns—we got lost boarding the Lufthansa A380-80, a plane so big it could have its own zip code. Rob was thrilled with legroom in the exit row, Kim was less thrilled with two giant Germans jostling their seats like it was Oktoberfest. But hey, free blankets! 

We arrived in Bangkok and were promptly fingerprinted and photographed, like tourist-slash-fugitives. Grab (aka Uber’s multilingual cousin) saved us from airport purgatory, and we crawled through rush hour traffic while dodging tuk-tuks and helmetless motorbike riders carrying actual infants. 

Our hotel suite? A spa-worthy haven. Dinner? Fiery Thai flavours that left us sweating but happy. Rob got Spicy Larb, which he hadn't had since Lotus of Siam in Vegas. Kim got Pla Kaphong Nung Manau, a fish dish so fancy it sounded like poetry. Bangkok’s streets are chaos incarnate, but our bed was calling—so much for nightlife.

Grab ditched us (and charged a no-show fee—rude), but hotel staff helped get us to Tingly Thai Cooking School in time for our 8:30 start. Chon, our guide, took us on a tour of the bustling Wat Kheak Market, where we learned to dodge scooters and spot the freshest herbs. 

The cooking class? A delicious triumph. Mortar and pestle in hand, we smashed our way to culinary glory, whipping up Tom Yum Soup, Red Curry Chicken, Pad Thai, and butterfly-pea-flower Blue Sticky Rice. Our group was a mix of people from the UK, Hungary, and Aussies on a girls' trip. Delicious and exhausting.

We then wandered down to River City Bangkok . It’s not your average mall—think art gallery with a food court. We ogled contemporary art from Yamada, even picked up a creepy postcard.

The day wrapped up with a nap during a river tour (snoozing counts as sightseeing, right?) Dinner was another spicy feast, and we officially decided: Bangkok is amazing, but it’s not “our city.”

Rob started the day with a misadventurous 5km “walkabout” (read: got lost). Later, we Skytrained to the Jim Thompson House, where teak buildings and tales of the mysterious Silk King had Kim dreaming of building her own compound.

A quick trip to Wat Pho introduced us to The Reclining Buddha, an enormous awe-inspiring sculpture that made up for more Grab drama. Traffic? Terrifying. Dinner? Glorious.

The grand finale? A four-hour Chinatown food tour with Pang and 18 (!) dishes, including Netflix-famous green curry with blood sausage and pork belly soup that dreams are made of. (See photo for the list of things we ate - we were bursting!)

By the end of it all, we were full, sweaty, and happy to return to our hotel—where the bedroom was warm, the kitchen cold, and the laundry running. Tomorrow, it’s farewell to Bangkok, but not to the memories (or the heartburn). Turns out, Bangkok’s not just a city—it’s a culinary marathon, a sensory overload, and a daily adventure. And yes, we took photos. Lots of them.

Pollution, no drinkable tap water, chaotic roads, relentless grime, and traffic that feels like a video game—all that chaos really overshadowed the scenery! That food though - we'd still go back!
